Excel LogoThese exercises start from basics and are suitable for people with no previous spreadsheet experience. Experienced users may be able to skim over the first few exercises but it is recommended that they be completed in order. I've found from teaching experience that people who skips steps invariably have to come back later to pick up what they missed. All of the following documents are in PDF format. The numbers in brackets indicate file size. Larger files may take a long time to open in slower internet connections.

  1. Getting Started (375kb)
  2. Calculations (125kb)
  3. Formatting (266kb)
  4. Charts (373kb)

excel_exercises.exe - Exercise files (114kb) - This is a compressed archive which contains all of the files needed for the exercises. Download the archive, double-click on the downloaded file and then specify where you want the exercise files to be placed on your computer.

These exercises were created for users of Microsoft Excel version 2002 (XP). They should be suitable for users of other versions though some minor differences may exist. Tutorials for the 2010 version will be available on this site very soon.

It is recommended that the files below are saved to your own computer. Right-click the file you need and then choose the Save Target As option. You can then select a location to save the file to.
