Microsoft Powerpoint Exercises

These exercises start from basics and are suitable for people with no previous experience with presentation software. Experienced users may be able to skim over the first few exercises but it is recommended that they be completed in order. I've found from teaching experience that people who skips steps invariably have to come back later to pick up what they missed. All of the following documents are in PDF format. The numbers in brackets indicate file size. Larger files may take a long time to open in slower internet connections.

  1. Getting Started (1.8Mb)
  2. Formatting Slides (1.1Mb)
  3. Drawing (771kb)
  4. Special Effects (558kb)
  5. PowerPoint Presentation Dos & Don'ts - Handout (24kb)

Powerpoint_sounds.exe - Exercise files (2.2Mb) - This is a compressed archive which some sample music files to be used in the last exercise. Download the archive, double-click on the downloaded file and then specify where you want the exercise files to be placed on your computer.

These exercises were created for users of Microsoft Powerpoint version 2002 (XP) and version 2003. They should be suitable for users of other versions though some minor differences may exist.
