Orodruin - Mountain of blazing fire. Also known as Amon Amarth or Mount Doom. This was a great volcano in the land of Mordor. It was here that Sauron forged his great ruling ring. This was also the only place where the ring could be destroyed. The fire of a great dragon would have been sufficient, but no dragons that powerful remained in Middle Earth. Also, it's not likely that too many dragons would have been kind enough to lend their fire for a good cause such as destroying Sauron's ring.

The quest of Frodo Baggins ended at Mount Doom where the ring of Sauron was finally destroyed in its fire.
