Changing desktop backgrounds tutorial

This page explains how to use a picture from this site as a background for your computer screen, often referred to as a "desktop background". Many of the pictures in the picture archive on this site are 800 pixels (dots) wide and 600 pixels high which are exactly the same dimensions that many people have their screens set to. Pictures of this size are ideal for background images.
Once you have found an image you like, you can select it to be used as your background picture. To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Move your mouse over the image and click the right mouse button and a short-cut menu like the one shown below will appear (if you are using an Apple Macintosh computer you probably only have one mouse button but you can hold it down for a second or so to get the same menu).
  2. In the menu, select the "Set as Wallpaper" option. A copy of that picture will then be used as your computer's background picture (desktop wallpaper).

If you would like to change more than just the background picture on your computer, you could try the LDS Theme on this site in the Downloads section. This theme allows Windows users to change the icons, background, sounds and screensavers on their computers all at once.
